On-the-road sales employees should be given diet and nutrition programs that would help them keep on the track of healthful eating while on travel

Introduction

Salespeople are usually on the road to meet potential clients, attend seminars, or simply connect with other people. On the road, nutrition is hard to manage accordingly. This lead to poor eating habits that can have an adverse effect on performance level and one's health condition. Diet and nutrition programs for effective performance are necessary to keep a sales team healthy and productive in Sri Lanka. This blog will discuss ways of maintaining healthy eating during travel and emphasizes the importance of nutrition in improving employee health and productivity.

Challenges

Travel disrupts normal eating habits, and it is too easy for sales professionals to fall into the trap of effortless, but unhealthy meals. The Health Promotion Model or HPM postulates that an individual does health-promoting behavior when they feel capable of executing the process and the benefit perceived from this engagement outweighs the negative feelings associated with it. Sri Lankan organizations must equip their employees with the knowledge and resources that would enable them to make healthier choices while on the go (J.Pender et al., 2015).

Examples and Strategies

Companies such as Google have acknowledged the significance of nutrition. Companies provide meal options in their cafeterias that take nutrition into account for their employees; even on company business trips, healthier meal options should be provided. As a matter of fact, teaching employees how to select healthy meals and snacks will actually help them maintain energy and concentration during extensive travel schedules (Google, 2021). For instance, organizations can provide meal prep ideas that are travel-friendly, suggest healthy snacks like nuts, fruits, and yogurt, and encourage hydration, such as having a water bottle with them always.

Moreover, nutrition education may empower employees in such positions to make better decisions. Workshops and guides on topics such as mobile apps which can recommend meal ideas based on available cuisines in the location where the employee finds themselves can help employees make certain decisions about dining options. Even engaging the services of nutritionists to prepare special meal plans tailored to present employees when they are traveling may be helpful (P.Niven et al., 2021).

Encourage participants to think about their own experiences in maintaining healthy road habits. What are some of the issues that you encounter? What has worked for you? These questions can be a great collaborative opportunity and allow the employees to share experiences and suggestions related to healthy eating on the road in Sri Lanka.

Conclusion

Diet and nutrition programs are needed for road traveling sales employees to maintain health and productivity. Use the Health Promotion Model to educate your workforce about healthy eating resources as they hit the roads. Share your thoughts and experiences-what does your organization do to support healthy eating for employees on the road in Sri Lanka?

  11. This post highlights the important insight of employee nutrition on meals. Organizations like Seylan Bank and Courtaulds Apparel are already having programs and implementation on this matter. Giving healthy and balanced meals inside organizations is common practice in the Sri Lankan apparel industry. Although giving appropriate meals at an affordable price is a practice of some bank head offices in Sri Lanka. It is my personal experience that Seylan Bank PLC HR team implemented the monthly allowance for the lunch meal to keep away from junk and unhealthy food from their staff. Good post..
