Physical Activity and Fitness at Work

📢Introduction

The issue is that physical fitness is usually an afterthought for sales and marketing personnel, who have to deal with busy schedules and thus spend much time at their desks. In other words, integrating fitness within a busy workday schedule allows one to improve physiological health and mental clarity by reducing stress. In countries like Sri Lanka, with a growing urbanization
and demanding schedules at work, minor strategies to keep fit at the workplace yield good dividends in terms of general well-being.

📘📗Theory and examples

The major drivers for action in the Theory of Planned Behavior are intention. Companies can support intentions among employees through creating enabling environments that make it easy for people to keep active. In Sri Lanka, for instance, some firms introduce fitness breaks, stretching sessions, or even short walks into the daily routine as a way of introducing physical activity. This approach goes hand in hand with regular physical activity, which has been proven to reduce stress and improve focus among employees, especially those with high-performance demands (A.Fernando, 2021).

📼Strategies

Examples of such strategies are the promotion of stair use, desk standing, and on-site classes of either yoga or exercise. Throughout the past years, many Sri Lankan organizations have implemented these types of options, especially those involved in information technology and finance, to further enhance the all-round feel of the working environment by ensuring that physical well-being is cared for (K.Silva, 2020). Physical activity, besides increasing job satisfaction, has also been found to be associated with lower absenteeism and heightened engagement in several studies.

The foregoing becomes an important consideration for organizations in Sri Lanka due to cultural and logistical reasons that need to be known for their effects on the effectiveness of the fitness initiatives at the workplace. What would be the most effective way of inciting exercises without disrupting the workflow? While the latter question is very important, another related question could be: Should the company provide participation incentives, or is it best to create a workplace culture in which physical wellness would naturally follow?

📚Conclusion

Workplace physical activities have far greater benefits at the level of employees and organizations alike, insofar as these practices are more likely to improve the health and productivity of employees. From in-session fitness breaks to on-site exercise classes, a number of straightforward steps can fairly easily integrate physical activity into the workday. 9. There is no denying that people's physical and mental health are declining in comparison to the previous 20 years. On average, most of them work eight to twelve hours per day. It is the company's duty to prioritize the physical fitness of its employees. As promotional initiatives and physical health awareness programs, most multinational organizations host events like marathons, Out Bound trainings, and 30-day fitness challenges. These strategies, in my opinion, are also quite appropriate in Sri Lanka.
